Fasting affects your heart like this

Sometimes, or several times, we have done it with the purpose of losing weight or; without imagining that by fasting, long or short, we affect not only our size but also the health of the heart.

Because, according to recent research from the Mayo Clinic, regular fasting -- restricting food and drink for one or two days a week -- may improve heart health.

This may be because people who regularly fast (as is the case in some religions) have greater self-control over the amount of calories they consume; it is also possible that your body metabolizes cholesterol and sugar better.

Although another study presented by the Heart Institute of the Intermountain Medical Center in the United States suggests that the beneficial effect of fasting is that it reduces triglyceride levels in the blood, which leads to a 39% lower risk of suffering a disease in the coronary arteries .

This is how our body responds

During fasting several reactions occur in the biological mechanisms of the organism, for example…

  1. Increases hunger and stress. In response, the body releases more cholesterol, which allows it to use fat for energy.
  2. Decreases the number of adipocytes (fat cells).
  3. You experience less insulin resistance.

However, before starting a fast you should consult a health expert. Because according to data from the American Heart Association, those who skip breakfast are 27% more likely to have a heart attack.
